WIFI ROCKSTARS at the first rock in the district
At the debut of the rock festival “Rock im Revier” in the Veltinsarena Gelsenkirchen in May 2015, around 43,000 metal fans were treated to first-class rock music on three stages. And the WIFI ROCKSTARS team was there - with high demands, you could also call them challenges. The entire 1TP17 project “WLAN for #RIR2015” was subject to quick and short-term planning, specifically just under 10 days from the request to implementation.
WiFi for festivals
A completely temporary, very powerful WIFI network including all the infrastructure such as routers, switches, etc. was installed for the various areas (festival office, Production, pass office, etc.) around the arena, but with such a monumental festival, security monitoring is important a special attention. Sophisticated and high-quality camera technology was used in the WLAN network. The cameras were connected via WLAN in order to bundle all images onto a computer or send them to an external monitoring center. In addition, we used fiber optics over long stretches and the installation had to be completely weatherproof. Stable WIFI was also booked backstage for the artists and management. The FC Schalke 04 changing rooms and their guest cabins for the backstage and VIP areas were converted and adapted accordingly to ensure a stay suitable for world stars.

What was particularly important for this 1TP17 project, in addition to sophisticated technology, was quick action and consistent support during the event. The respective management had various special requests that we had to implement at short notice, including renovation work just before the performance. Overall, a cool 1TP17 project with more live support, more rock star effect, more challenge.
