WIFIROCKSTARS at the VW GTI meeting at Lake Wörthersee
At this year's VW GTI meeting in May, the over 150,000 visitors and friends of the Golf GTI had their own WiFi network, commissioned by VOLKSWAGEN and implemented by the WIFI ROCKSTARS team.
A great project because tradition meets the digital age in a historic location. The meeting has been taking place on Lake Wörthersee in Austria for over 30 years and this year the good performance was not only due to the tuned engines, but also to the WiFi hotspot. The GTI supporters found an interactive app on a special landing page. With the help of augmented reality technology (AR), virtually alienated photos could be taken using smartphones and tablets. The new visual presentation of information thrilled visitors. The photos, but also “normal” photos of the event and the vehicles, were shared on the social web with other interested parties.
This meant that the event was also able to spread on the web and generate considerable reach. With the WIFI ROCKSTARS, GTI fans strongly identified with the VOLKSWAGEN brand - more brand, more passion, more performance.
Another pleasant effect of the internet connection provided by WIFI ROCKSTARS: The fans not only share their cars on site at Lake Wörthersee but also online on the social web.
