WIFIROCKSTARS at the VW GTI meeting at Lake Wörthersee

At this year's VW GTI meeting in May, there was a dedicated Wi-Fi network for the more than 150,000 visitors and friends of the Golf GTI, commissioned by VOLKSWAGEN and implemented by the WIFI ROCKSTARS team.

A fantastic project, combining tradition with the digital age at a historic location. The event has been held on Austria's Wörthersee for over 30 years, and this year's performance wasn't just for the tuned engines, but also for the Wi-Fi hotspot. GTI fans found an interactive app on a special landing page. Augmented reality (AR) technology allowed them to take virtually enhanced photos on smartphones and tablets. Visitors were thrilled by the new visual presentation of information. The photos, as well as "normal" photos of the event and the vehicles, were shared with other interested parties on social media.

This allowed the event to also gain traction online and generate significant reach. With the WIFI ROCKSTARS, GTI fans strongly identified with the VOLKSWAGEN brand – more brand, more passion, more performance.

Another pleasant effect of the internet connection provided by WIFI ROCKSTARS: The fans share their cars not only on site at Lake Wörthersee but also online on the social web.
